Yaz DVT

The life-threatening problems caused by Yasmin / Yaz and DVT are becoming clearer as more women suffer from serious side effects related to Yaz and blood clot risk problems. Deep vein thrombosis (also referred to as “DVT”) is a commonly diagnosed injury by women who were hospitalized with a clotting problem while using this new birth control pill.

Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) mainly affects the veins in the lower leg and thigh. A clot (thrombus) forms in the larger veins of the area. This clot can interfere with blood flow, and it may break off and travel through the bloodstream (embolize). The blood clot (embolus) can travel to the brain, lungs, heart, or other area, severely damaging that organ.

What Are the Signs and Symptoms of Deep Vein Thrombosis?

The signs and symptoms of deep vein thrombosis and Yaz may be related to DVT itself or to pulmonary embolism (PE). See your doctor right away if you have symptoms of either. Both Yasmin DVT and PE can cause serious, possibly life-threatening complications if not treated. An exam may show redness, swelling, or tenderness in the leg.

The presence of DVT may be seen on:

•        X-rays to show veins (venography) in the legs

•        Doppler ultrasound exam of a limb

•        Plethysmography of the legs

•        D-dimer blood test

Many causes of increased clotting can be found by these blood tests:

•        Antithrombin III, protein C, protein S

•        Factor V Leiden

•        Prothrombin 20210a mutation

•        DIC screening

•        Lupus anticoagulant and anticardiolipin antibodies

Many women have a genetic clotting factor and prior to using Yaz they never had a problem with blood clots.  Please contact us for more information regarding developing blood clots while using birth control if you have a genetic clotting factor.

Yaz And Deep Vein Thrombosis

Only about half of the people with DVT have symptoms. These symptoms occur in the leg affected by the blood clot. They include:

  • Swelling of the leg or along a vein in the leg
  • Pain or tenderness in the leg
  • Increased warmth in one leg
  • Changes in skin color (redness) in the leg
